Sjaak Buwalda – Holanda, fala-nos sobre condução de borrachos

As minhas corridas de inverno terminaram em Março, depois de passar algum tempo em áreas mais ensolaradas, os focos estão agora na nossa temporada de corridas nos países de baixa altitude. Quando você está fora daqui neste momento na Holanda, você pensaria que já é primavera. Ok eu na maior parte do tempo ando em manga curta e só uma camisa, inverno e verão, ainda me sinto mais frio do que eu preferiria em torno desta época do ano. Ainda assim, a temporada de rachas começou há cerca de quatro semanas e nos dias de corrida nós tivemos todo o tipo de clima, mudanças de tempo o tempo todo. Bit Clima diferente para Portugal eu presumo, preferiria correr por causa do tempo definitivamente. Para se ter uma ideia, a área onde eu moro é cercada por água, parece que muitas vezes vivemos numa ilha. A geografia da nossa província é  única, pelo menos para os países com pombos da Europa Ocidental. Onde as fronteiras de nossa província param no norte, o mundo pára, só o mar depois disso, o que tem suas consequências, especialmente quando o vento sopra nessa direção. Os pombos são apenas balões ao vento, como nós, pessoas, estamos na água com fortes correntes, sem parar isso. Aves inexperientes têm que lidar com sucesso, uma vez que não sentem mais pânico e se ajustam à situação. Nas últimas semanas, experimentamos um forte vento leste soprando-os para o mar, onde, como no último sábado, houve um forte vento sudoeste soprando, quando nossos pombos tiveram que vir do sudeste. Estamos localizados no sudoeste da província, você pode imaginar a maioria dos nossos pilotos voaram com mais de 100 km / h e, em seguida, acabam trabalhando de volta em um vento de cabeça. Tudo parte do jogo aqui, e se você olhar para os resultados, tempo de corrida e chegadas para mim, parece que estamos correndo coelhos. Em comparação com as áreas na Holanda, onde eles se libertam em pequenos grupos todos indo na mesma direção, nunca tendo que lidar com grandes lagos frios tentando derrubá-los, em vez de voar sobre a terra onde as correntes de ar mais quentes estão levantando-os. As regras da natureza e os nossos pilotos sabem disso, impressos no seu genepatern. Para mim, este primeiro conjunto de corridas é usado apenas para treinamento, tentando endireitar as suas bonecas, deixá-las crescer confiantes e em ritmo de corrida para as provas internacionais realizadas em junho, julho e primeira semana de agosto. Os pombos velhos ainda estão no natural, os ovos eclodem esta semana, e quando os jovens estão prontos, esta equipe estará em total viuvez para as corridas de maratona. Neste fim de semana espera-se um vento frio do noroeste com chuva, com bebês de apenas alguns dias de idade, eu já decidi manter os velhos pombos em casa. Na semana passada eles já em 170 km e na próxima semana eles podem ir para 325 quilômetros, na esperança de algum tempo mais quente. Como eu já mencionei, ainda há muito tempo para levá-los nas asas para fazer horas de vôo ou quilômetros, se você quiser. Não há muito a ensinar os pombos mais velhos, já que eles já têm um tempo difícil de seleção sendo de um ano. Ainda em relex mode até então. Os alevinos e os mestiços estão na cesta todas as corridas até agora, levando-os à experiência sob todo tipo de clima, ruim e bom. Para os novilhos, uma tarefa muito mais fácil, já que eles já correram até 410 quilômetros quando jovens. Os mestiços obtêm um bootcamp de selo marinho que é mostrado no número de dropouts. Eles ganham menos tempo para pegar o que é esperado, os poucos que são capazes de pegar o jogo rápido o suficiente são mais do que bem-vindos, os que partiram provavelmente não nasceram para serem maratonistas, afinal. Talvez seja melhor esperar até que os meses de verão mais quentes apareçam no calendário, e então corra atrás dos mestiços, mais provavelmente o faria. Mas que garantia eu tenho a qualidade está lá? Então deixo para o meu modo de não paciência e corrijo-os desde o começo. Para se ter uma idéia, em nossa área, a maioria dos pombos é de longa distância ou maratonista, apenas por causa da geografia de nossa província, onde os déficits de nossa posição são menos influenciados pelo clima por causa das distâncias mais longas. Além disso, o sucesso das grandes corridas conquistadas em nossa área fez com que cada vez mais se mudasse da categoria programm racing, até 600 km, para corridas de maratona. O atmosfere mudou, a mentalidade é diferente entre os maratonistas, mais relaxada eu pressumo. Uma mudança aconteceu em direção a positivo, reclamando não permitido, em diante nós vamos.

My winter one loft races have finished in march, after spending some time in more sunny areas, the focues is now on our racing season in the lowland countries. When you are outside here at the moment in Holland, you would think it is spring already. Ok I most of the time walk in short and just a shirt, winter and summer, still I feel if it colder than I would prefer around this time of year. Still, the racingseason has started some four weeks ago and on racingdays we had all sort of weather, windchanges all the time. Bit different climat to Portugal I presume, would prefer racing because of the weather definately. To give you an idea, the area where I live is surrounded by water, seems often like we live on an island. The geography of our province is somewhat unique, at least for western European pigeon countries. Where our province borders stop in the north, the world stops, only sea after that, which has it’s consequences, especially when the wind is blowing in that direction. Pigeons are just balloons on the wind, like we people are in the water with strong currents, no stopping that. Unexperienced birds have to deal wit hit, once expereinced no more panic and they adjust to the situation. In recent weeks we experienced hard east wind blowing them to the sea, where as last Saturday there was a hard southwest wind blowing, when our pigeons had to come from the south east. Us being located in the south west of the province, you can imagine most of our racers flew by with over 100 kmph and then end up working their way back into a head wind. All part of the game here, and if you look at the results, racingtime and arrivals to me it looks like we are racing rabbits. Compared to areas in Holland where they liberate in small groups all heading in the same direction, never having to deal with big cold lakes trying to pull them down, in stead of flying over land where the warmer airstreams are lifting them. Natures rules and our racers know it, imprinted in their genepatern. For me these first set of races are only used for training, trying to straighten their compas, let them grow confident and in racingcondition for the international races held in june, july and first week of august. The old birds are still on natural, the eggs hatching this week, and when the youngsters are ready to be weened, this team will be on total widowhood for the marathon races. This weekend a cold north west wind is expected with rain, with babies of just a few days old, I already decided to keep the old birds at home. Last week they where already on 170 km and next week they can go to 325km in hopefully some warmer weather. As I already mentioned, still plenty of time to get them on the wings to make flying hours or kilometers if you want. Not much to teach the old birds anymore as they already get a hard selectiontime being yearlings. Still in relexmode untill then. The yearlings and latebreds have been in the basket every race so far, getting them the experience under all sort of weather, bad and good. For the yearlings a much easier task, as they already where raced untill 410 kilometer as youngsters. The latebreds realy get a navy seal bootcamp which is show in the number of dropouts. They get less time to pick up what is expected, the few which are able to pick up the game fast enough are more then welcome, the ones gone probably not born to be marathon racers after all. Perhaps it would be better to wait untill the warmer summermonths apear on the calender, and then race the latebreds, more would make it probably. But which guarantee do I get the quality is there? So I leave it to my no patience mode and race them from the start. To give you an idea, in our area most pigeonmen are long distance or marathon racers, just because of the geography in our province, in which the deficits of our position are less of weather influence because of the longer distances. Plus the succes of big races won in our area made more and more to move from programm racing as wel call it, untill 600km, toward marathon racing. The atmosfere changed, the mentality is different amongst marathon men, more relaxed I pressume. A shift happened toward positive, complaining not allowed, onwards we go
